WINTER OPERATIONS
Winter Operations begin in November. The Highway Department will be manned on a 24 hour a day basis, 7 days a week until early April.
- Please make sure that your cars are not parked in the streets during snow operations.
- Please do not blow snow or plow snow from your driveway into the street.
- If you or your snow plow contractor plow your snow across the street, it is your responsibility to ensure that the roadway is cleared of all snow. These snow piles are a major cause of accidents during the winter season.
- If a mailbox is inadvertently knocked down during plowing operations, it will be repaired or replaced as soon as conditions warrant. If the box is replaced, it will be replaced with a standard metal mailbox. Plastic boxes will not be used as replacements. If the post is broken, a standard 4x4 post will be used with the box attached to the post either via a top board or a half lap fixture.
- The department's policy during a snowstorm is to have bare wheel lanes as soon as possible, and to have bare road within four hours after the end of the storm.
The Town of Clarkson Highway Department tries to deliver the best service possible at the least cost to its taxpayers. During the winter the department will use a variety of products depending on storm type, temperature and time of day. The department may use either straight salt, a mixture of salt and sand, and if conditions warrant, straight saltbrine.
